While Acadiana seems to have no shortage of places to burn calories, for most people half the battle is in the kitchen.

If you’re busy at work and you forgot to pack a healthy lunch, it can be tempting to opt for take-out or one of those frozen lean meals that claims to be healthy but is packed with sodium.

Instead of messing up your good streak because of poor planning, consider taking advantage of a few of these healthy lunch spots in Acadiana.

Sandra’s Café

If you’re in need of a healthy plate lunch, be sure to swing by Sandra’s Café near the center of town on Rena Dr.

The café sells daily plate lunches made with healthy and organic ingredients.

Typical lunch time dishes include shrimp fajitas, stuffed bell peppers, veggie wraps and grilled salmon and fresh vegetables on the side.

Sandra’s also sells fresh produce, organic groceries, vitamins and supplements and healthy treats like dates and chocolate covered nuts.

Sandra’s begins serving plate lunches every day at 10 a.m. and stop around 2 p.m.

If you’re on the South side of town and can’t bring yourself to pay Whole Foods prices, then consider visiting Rachael’s.

The café offers regular plate lunches, but the healthiest options can be ordered from their Fit Meal menu.

These meals are low carb and gluten free and come with eight ounces of protein and two cups of vegetables.

Fit Meal entrees include dishes like cabbage rolls made with cauliflower rice, steak and sausage minus the gravy and Cajun shrimp over zucchini noodles.

Manager Jordan Hebert said, “My family grew up in the restaurant industry cooking regular food. We were excited to add these meals to the menu though because we feel like we’re making an impact in people’s lives. We’re not just satisfying a taste profile, but people’s well-being.”

Lunch is from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The café offers both dine in and take out options, and offers delivery through Waitr.

Bon Vie Kitchen

Taking advantage of the delicious, healthy meals provided by Bon Vie Kitchen provides a little bit more pre-planning, since they must be pre-ordered, but meals can be picked up from several locations throughout Acadiana, including Nouriche Medical Spa in River Ranch and The Beet Juice Bar.

Owner and operator, Molly Clayton spent several years as a chef before getting married, and an agonizing amount of time researching what food was healthy for her daughter with an autoimmune disorder to eat.

For the consumer, this means you can bet all her dishes are not only farm to table, but also organic and free of additives.

The pork used in her dishes come from the pigs she and her husband raise on their 15-acre farm, and all the farms they source products from are within 35 miles of Lafayette.

Examples of dishes on some of her past menus include glute-free lasagna, gluten-free and grain free gumbo and black bean and organic corn chili soup.

To place an order or for more information about the meals, visit bonviekitchen.com or call 337-514-0563.
