JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, is partnering with the nonprofit TRAIL to host its 1st Annual Family Ride on April 30, 2017 during the “Ride for Rox” at Festival International de Louisiane.
TRAIL hosts the “Ride for Rox” as a celebration of the life of Roxane Richard who was fatally struck down in October 2011 while riding her bike. Louisiana JDRF is partnering with TRAIL owner Scott Schilling to support the “Ride for Rox” and provide a new avenue for families with TID to fundraise for research. “The JDRF Louisiana Chapter is excited to offer this ride for families with TID in the Lafayette area. Our One Walk which is our largest fundraiser is held in the fall so this ride provides an opportunity for participants to come together and celebrate TID and raise awareness in the community. We are grateful to have TRAIL as a partner to execute the ride,” said Executive Director Jill Joffrion.
The Family Ride will consist of all ages and will be 3.9 miles long beginning and ending in downtown Lafayette. Registration is free and participants in the ride will receive an official Friend of Festival pin. The pins are one of the ways which helps Festival International to raise money and keep the festival free. Riders will also be able to win door prizes from TRAIL sponsors.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested more than $2 billion in research funding since our inception. We are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion, and energy. We collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, and corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver a pipeline of innovative therapies to people living with T1D. Our staff and volunteers throughout the United States and our six international affiliates are dedicated to advocacy, community engagement and our vision of a world without T1D. TRAIL’s mission is to build a better community that promotes healthier lifestyles. The organization builds and maintains parks, paths and trails for walking, hiking, biking, and paddling. TRAIL works with governments, individuals, and businesses to create a more desirable place to live, work, and visit. TRAIL also produces a number of outdoor running and cycling events. The events have a dual-function: they get people outdoors and active, and help to raise money for the organization’s projects.
