How one young man’s courage, heart, and spirit are leaving a legacy beyond the field
“We don’t see limitations. We see potential.”
At Acadiana Christian Athletics, these aren’t just words—they’re a way of life. And no story captures that better than the journey of 15-year-old CJ Pierret.
CJ, who is on the autism spectrum, joined ACA Football after a challenging experience trying to play for a traditional high school program. Where others saw difficulty, ACA saw potential. From the moment CJ stepped onto the field, the coaches and players welcomed him as one of their own—with open arms, open hearts, and an unshakable belief in his place on this team.
“CJ was embraced from day one,” said one ACA coach. “We didn’t need him to change. We just needed him to show up. And he did, every single day—with joy, with effort, and with a heart bigger than any scoreboard.”
Embodying What ACA Stands For
CJ quickly became more than just a teammate—he became an example. Through discipline, dedication, and a quiet strength, he earned his place and the respect of his peers. His growth over the course of the season was something every coach, player, and parent could feel. He wasn’t just part of the journey—he helped define it.
At this year’s End-of-Season Banquet, CJ was honored in a way that very few players ever are.
He was awarded jersey number 71—a legacy number at ACA. This number is passed down year after year, from one graduating lineman to another. It is given only to players who fully embody what ACA represents: grit, integrity, brotherhood, and faith.
CJ didn’t just wear the jersey. He earned it.
A Legacy Just Beginning
CJ’s story isn’t just one of football—it’s one of acceptance, inclusion, and the unbreakable belief that everyone deserves a chance. His presence has shaped this team in a lasting way, and his legacy will live on far beyond the field.
As Acadiana Christian continues to grow, our mission remains the same: to provide a home for athletes of all backgrounds, all stories, and all walks of life—especially those who’ve been counted out elsewhere.
CJ Pierret is a living reminder that greatness isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it comes in the form of quiet strength, a ready smile, and the courage to keep showing up
